Shelby had five years marriage with Ford 1964-1969, where Ford asked
the Big Texan, a high performance Mustang to develop challenge the
Corvette in SCCA racing. The 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Cobra Jet is the reigning success of the
collaboration between Shelby and Ford. Found on eBay Motors is one of
the 318 Cabriolet models, which were built in 1968.1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 KR Cobra Jet 428The 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500 KR was mid-year introduction, based on the 1968 Shelby GT500. If the 428 Cobra Jet engine was available in '68, the GT500 KR replaced the GT500. He put out 400hp although it received a rating of 335 hp. The modest rating should deceive the competition and the insurance companies.The GT500 KR "King of the Road" performed the same characteristics on the Cobra Jet Mustang 1968½ found. KRS came with Cobra Jet emblems on the fenders, dash and fuel cap cover. All had functional Ram Air which meant for no Cobra oval air cleaner.400hp Cobra Jet 428 V8 enginePrevent Larger brakes, suspension strut tower bracing, and staggered rear shocks wheel hop and axis wind-up. These were the fastest Shelby Series vehicles to date and offered excellent handling, braking and acceleration especially.
During 1968 4451 Shelby Mustangs were produced. 1253 Fastbacks and 404 Cabriolets up made the GT350 series. The 1968½ GT500 was available as hatchback or convertible. There were 1,140 GT500 Fastbacks and 402 GT500 Convertible 1968 produced 1968 also saw the production of 933 GT500 KR Fastbacks and 318 GT500KR convertibles.
